''Crowd Sourcing'' with Dennis Marx, BrainRack

North Shore Interest Group Breakfast -- Thursday, May 20, 7:30 a.m.

Details of the Presentation and Dialog Session

“Crowd-sourcing!"  A new buzz word. The established methods for companies to innovate through either R&D or external consultants are expensive processes. BrainRack provides companies with a new innovation tool, which utilizes the wisdom of the worldwide web crowd to resolve issues in a cost effective manner.

BrainRack is an online platform that is designed to offer innovative people (“innovators”), primarily university students, the opportunity to earn money by submitting solutions to “challenges.” A “challenge” is a question that a client posts on www.brainrack.com, to which innovators respond. The posted challenge could relate to market research, branding, or any appropriate business issue. A sample challenge from an airline is: “How can we make waiting at the gate more fun?” or, from a university: “How can we stimulate academic excellence within our university?”

Clients that post challenges will receive dozens of fresh ideas (3 or 4 pages per solution) from creative minds. The client provides an award of $5,000 that will be divided amongst the winning solutions. BrainRack’s clients select the innovators with winning ideas, and then have an opportunity to offer the chosen individuals jobs or internships.
