Details of the Presentation and Dialog Session
In a breathtakingly short period of time, cell phones, e-mail and social networking have profoundly impacted interpersonal communication. It is no longer necessary to be out of touch with loved ones as we or they travel the neighborhood or even the globe. But are these technologies merely tools that facilitate our relationships with each other by increasing the ease of contact, or has technology actually started to change the very fabric of our relationships? Is it possible to have a meaningful personal conversation with someone who is simultaneously responding to an e-mail from the office? Is "texting" your way through a conflict a good method of avoiding drama, or does it inhibit the development of important emotion regulation skills? This conversation will address these and other questions related to the impact of technology on how we conduct our most personal relationships.
